MTM Show and Golden Girls – best sitcoms EVER!
Stan Daniels’ Old Man River is my personal highlight, as it’s not only hilarious, but he also wrote for the CBC in Canada – including a great number called “Uncle Louie” for the show 1955 in Review – which my Papa – Sammy Sales – performed.
If any early-TV/Theatre buffs out there remember Sammy, pls post and let me know!
At 4:49, Ted, Murray and Lou are singing the melody of the song “More”, but they changed it to say “Moore”. That’s terrific, and that’s great comedy mixed with a great song which Andy Williams sings also. Wow! I’ve never seen the part after the show finished starting at 5:30. Is there any Moore?
@SpaceLady79 Actually, I think that guy spent his entire life in the studio audience for the show Taxi. He guffawed that same laugh week after week after week … drove me nuts!!!
LOL
You can hear that one guy laughing that you always do in the show.
Ha-ha-ha — like Ricky Ricardo.
someone should extract the Old Man River segment out and post it. Too funny.
@TheMikester307 another hilarious version of ‘Old Man River’ that comes to mind was from the “Newhart” show…….when very very verrrrrry white (and rich) Stephanie (Julia Duffy) sings it
one of the funniest single moments from that show, imo
And the thing is, the version of Old Man River fits perfectly!
Betty likes to point out when people screw up. in GG there was a tine where she said Bea screwed up like what she said to Mary.
Ditto from my comment on Part 1
@davidallancoe1 What was really surprising was Ed Asner having included the Mad Magazine parody The Mary Tailor-Made Show as a special feature in Season 2 – talk about being a good sport.
The talking version of Ol’ Man River is a scream!
I love Georgette’s face @ 1:20…
I liked that part where Ed Asner, Gavin MacLeod and Ted Knight were serenading Mary Tyler Moore with the song, “Moore”, which was a parody of the popular song “More”. And I know where they got that song: Mad Magazine. Frank Jacobs wrote that parody; it appeared in an issue of Mad Magazine sometime in the 70s. I was a big fan of Mad Magazine back then (as well as the Mary Tyler Moore Show), and I had read that parody in Mad Magazine back then. The guys at MTM must have liked Jacobs’ parody, too!
Best TV show ever. So glad Seasons 5, 6, and 7 are finally coming out on DVD. I adore Mary and the gang.
Yes, now I realize that’s him!
haha
Just like you can hear Jim Burrows laugh on all the shows he directs – Cheers, Frasier, Friends, Will & Grace…
apparently everyone else flubbed their lines from time to time and betty did not…so she wanted to louse up just like everyone else….
can someone explain to me what is happening between 0:17 and 0:46? i can’t understand what betty white said. something about lousing up???
that old man river was too funny…
My husband and I met her after she appeared in Tales of the Allergist’s Wife on Broadway….Sandy Duncan took over but I don’t know if she was fired? I never really watched to show. But she was so wonderful and down-to-earth—simply wonderful!!
James Brooks’ unmistakeable laugh @5:24.
How did you meet her? Wasn’t she fired from “The Hogan Family” and Sandy Duncan took over?
Haha! Yes that is funny! I know:that’s the episode that I rewinded because at first i thought it was part of the show, but nope, it’s was Mr. Brooks! I figured it had to be someone who worked on the show, because you hear him all the time
haha
Yes…isn’t that funny? That’s him and you can really hear him on RHODA on the episode she gets married (and I remember them talking about how it was him laughing in the background) Love this show so much!!!
