Born in Melbourne, Australia in 1953, Samantha’s parents, Reg and Joan Sang, were musicians who owned their own music school. Feeling that their last name of Sang was too showbiz sounding, Samantha’s father and mother would perform together publicly as Reg Gray and Joan Clarke. Together they appeared in live concerts and on TV and two of Australia’s most popular television personalities of the 50′s and 60′s. When she was only 8, Samantha took the stage name Cheryl Gray and began performing with her parents. She quickly became known as “the little girl with the big voice” and during her teens in the mid 60′s she became a radio star as Cheryl Gray and recorded and released 8 singles (18 songs altogether) for HMV Records (His Master’s Voice), which in later years has become more widely known as Victor Music Industries (in Japan) and RCA (in America). In 1967 she won a “Best female Vocalist” award for her single You Made Me What I Am. In the later half of 1968 she left Australia for London where she continued to tour and cut her final two singles on the Columbia Records label. While there she met Singer/Songwriter Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees. Barry co-wrote the song The Love Of A Woman just for Samantha, which became her final single of the
